2. What are three topics you feel you know the most about.

Happy New Year!

Hello students! As some of you may know, I am in Hong Kong right now. Wednesday and Thursday will end and begin a new year! Happy New Year!

I want to let you know that my phone still works while I am in Hong Kong, but it will cost over 2RMB to receive a text message from China. So, PLEASE DO NOT SEND A SMS FOR THE NEW YEAR! It will be very costly to me. If you want to wish me a happy new year, please do so by email. It's still free!

I will return on Sunday, so if you would like to ask questions or visit, let me know. You are always welcome to eat with me or spend time talking.

Good luck on your final exams and I hope to see you soon.

Assignment for 12/8, 12/11, and 12/12 and Journal Requirements

Hello students!

This week I will be giving you advice based on what I saw in your speeches. You need to prepare by reading the following articles and preparing your journal.

Reading:
Framing a Thesis Statement:
http://writing.colostate.edu/guides/speaking/infomod/pop5b.cfm - also click on the two links to read how to develop a thesis statement for the audience.

The Five-Step Method for Improving Delivery:
http://writing.colostate.edu/guides/speaking/infomod/com2g1.cfm

These resources are from Colorado State University in the USA.

Journal Requirements:
According to the syllabus, you are required to write a journal. This journal should have one entry for every month of the semester, excluding December, and after your informative speech. This means you should have four (4) journal entries.

Each journal entry should have the following information:

1. A review of your personal communication skills. This should be your first journal entry.
2. How what you have learned has helped you with your communication skills. This should include some of the information in class, but should not be limited to the class. (For example, "I learned that there are three types of communication: body language, voice tonality and words," is NOT a good sentence. A good sentence would be, "In my life I have thought communication was only words. Now I know that body language is the most important part of communication.") This should be the second and third journal entry.
3. For the journal entry for the speech, write how you prepared the speech and what you would do differently if you were do do this again. Also write about your presentation and what you think you should improve in giving the presentation.
4. DO NOT write your speech in your journal. If you write your speech in your journal I will give you and automatic score of 0.

The final exam is coming soon. We will discuss what to prepare in class.

Presentations

Hello students!

For the next three weeks you will be giving your informative speeches. Please make sure you prepare well. Also, remember to dress nice for the week you present.

Also, remember you are allowed one unexcused absence. If you have not used it, one of the next three weeks would be a good time to do it (remember, you cannot use it on the week you present.

Also, if you have not given me your topic, you must do so this week.
